Ο Θοδωρής Αδαμόπουλος συνομίλησε εφ' όλης της ύλης με τον ένα

εκ' των δύο κιθαριστών των VANE ,τον Robert Zembrzycki.

I want to start the interview by congrats you about your amazing debut album!Firstly, because it is the first time for our blog to present your work, tell me about the band’s first steps to nowadays, “The Prologue” e.p. line up etc.

Hey man – it’s a long story. But to put it shortly, I’ve been friends with Mateusz for years, and we decided to form a band together. We decided on the pirate topic, because we like pirates a lot, and we started completing the lineup. Marcin Parandyk and Marcin Zdeb were our first choices, and amazingly they both agreed to join us. Marcin Frąckowiak was happy to join us too, but soon his duties in Percival forced us to make a decision to change the lineup. Łukasz stepped in and he’s a valuable addition to the band and a very good showman. The five of us really put our backs into making the album, and after a year of hard work writing and promoting the album, we are where we are.

I think i’m already sure about the answer to the next one, so… is the band’s name VANE, inspired by the well-known pirate, Charles Vane?

Yes. Charles Vane was one of the most fierce pirates to ever sail the seas, and thus

a fitting namesake for the band.

Personally, I always loved the “piracy concept” in metal music and I hope you will continue to write stuff like this in the future. What made you choose that subject lyrically? Are you all the guys in the band fans of this historical era and the great pirates that lived back in the golden age of piracy ?

Well, I love sailing, I grew up reading books about seafaring mariners and pirates, I’ve always liked franchises like Pirates of Caribbean or Black Sails, and naturally I wanted to pay some homage to that with the band. Mateusz also was very keen on this idea, and so it went. The rest of the guys may not be so interested in the history of the Golden Age as the two of us are, but they like the topic non the less.

Even if it is your debut album, I can say that the first thing I noticed, was the good production, something rare to find in debut albums. I know that Mateusz Gajdzik (one of the guitar players) was involved in it and I think he made a very good job with Przemysław Nowak who made also the recording / mixing and the mastering. Which is the producer approach you prefer as a band? The “friendly coach” producer who helps the band but not change a lot of things, or the well-known producer that maybe is tough and but in the end, he/she will extract from you things you could not imagine?

In our case Mateusz is the tough producer pushing everything and everyone to the limits of their capability. But I think that precisely there, far outside of your comfort zone and on the edge of ability is where great things are happening.

There is this great song entitled: “spilling guts” in which we can hear very well placed guest female vocals from Ewa Pitura. The female character in this song is the person who changed the entire future of our hero as I noticed, but I’ll leave it to you to explain it further if you like and a few extra details of the concept would be welcomed.

Well, You can watch our series – Behind The lyrics, which premieres on our Youtube Channel every Thursday – where I discuss the lyrics and the story behind every song with Marcin, our Vocalist. But I’ll tell you this – this is not the end of the story of the female character from this song. I can’t tell you anything more, but eventually those who are curious about the story will find out what happened to her. And for those who want some more info on the story of “Black Vengeance” – please check out our Youtube.

I will stay a little bit in the concept, but not from the lyrical aspect, as for the musical side. The first time I listened to the album and I was reading the lyrics at the same time, I noticed that the music was playing a big role as the concept was going on and on. I felt it as a soundtrack of a horror pirate movie (LOL, not the DISNEY shit..you know) with a huge ending with the last song “hangman” with the amazing “cinematic” narrative vocals in the middle. Did the making of the orchestration build as the lyrics were in progress, or you’ve already planned it like this from the beginning?

The songs were pre-recorded and pre-arranged by us before we entered the studio, so it was all planned. Nowadays it’s the only way to go about recording – you can record stuff decent enough at home, to find out if the songs work or not, and polish them until they are perfect.

Does the idea of making concept albums seems more natural to you in the future, because you started with one like this? You know most bands find it very difficult to write a concept album even if they are in their 4th or 5th album and not the first!

We hope to create a pirate universe of our own. Like in Black Sails for example – watching this series you know this is not 100% historically accurate, but it’s plausible, it seems real and it is believable. We want to achieve the same thing with the stories we tell on our releases. So you can definitely expect “Vane Cinematic Universe” expanding with every song we create.

Of course it is early now, but are there any new ideas for the follow up album?

Not so much an album, but rather a few singles – we’re already working on them.

I regularly see your facebook posts etc. and I think (unlike other bands) you use very wise and right to the point the internet, for keeping’ your fans posted with updates and not with “net trash” and “what did I eat today” stuff .Back in the days of course it was absolutely impossible for a band to let the fans know what the band do the very same day. I so much enjoyed for example (still do and wait for the next one) the series of your videos that explains songs and lyrics! Do you believe on the other hand, that the too much information feeding, is getting the fans to lose the “hunger”? What do you believe as a net user?

I believe you have to maintain a fragile balance, you have to deliver just the right amount of content to your fans, so that you switch between spiking and satiating their appetites. I love these sneak-peaks into other bands lives, however if I see one band popping up too much, I quickly become bored of it. We try to feed our fans with something cool quite often, but we care deeply for the content that we put out, so that we don’t spam people with trash.

You are on the “Black Tour of Vengeance” now (Amazing tour name by the way). How is it going so far? Are there any shows already booked outside Poland? Summer festivals abroad?

We have some shows already revealed and being promoted, while others are still secret. But basically, we try to get out there as much as we can and play whatever shows we can. Wish I could tell you what’s cooking up, but unfortunately I can’t get into any more details.

I know it’s early, but any luck to see you perform here in Greece? Do you have any feedback from fans and promoters from Greece?

We’d love to come to Greece. Maybe one day it will happen – let’s keep our fingers crossed for this .

Closing, I want to thank you for this interview and If you like, give a message to the Greek metal fans that will read this interview and of course to your already “pirate crew members” fans here in Greece.

Thanks for listening to our music. Go follow Vane on social media, stream our music, buy our merch and wave the flag of piracy, and I hope we’ll get to meet you all during our live shows. Ahoy, my friends!
